Scott Adams - Tactical Coon Trapping is a very well done trapping DVD that focuses exclusively on how to catch raccoon using a 5×5 body grip trap. Several states restrict body grips on dry ground to this size trap, and this video will show you how to catch raccoons with this trap. This is a specialty DVD in that is has a narrow focus. It’s 5×5 only. For states like OH and MO, using the 5x5 will open a ton of ground to you.
This video is about an hour long. In that time Scott Adams explains and shows you his method for modifying a 5×5 bodygrip and his method for fencing down these little body grips. He also shows that his method is capable of catch fox in these little traps as well. Different stabilizers and stake systems are covered, and why they are important. Both blind sets and baited sets are explained, and he explains his trigger configuration for each type of set.
There’s also a special appearance by Mark Kohler who explains how he and Charlie Dobbins used 120 for raccoon. You can see that Scott uses many of the same principles that they did.
The quality of the video is excellent. The video is very clear, and there are many shots that show very clearly how to place and fence down the trap. I wish every video was this well done and this clear. The audio is very good as well. There’s no wind noise, no distortion and you can easily hear and understand what Scott is saying. Scott clearly and plainly explains what he does, and why he does it. He also shows making his style set under a variety of conditions from short grass to snow covered woods to culverts.
The bottom line to any video is the long term takeaway; that is, several months after watching a video do you remember anything specific from it? I can honestly say that any time I find myself having to use a small bodygrip – I remember and apply the principles I learned in this video. I have found myself having to use 220 conibears for beaver in some situations – and I applied the lessons I learned in this video to those situations.
